Emma June is Writing a Novel

Emma June is a journalist, novelist, and content creator based in West Virginia. We caught up with her to chat about how her day job as a Managing Editor at a county paper interconnects with the process of writing a novel and creating body confidence content.
Emma June has a lot on her plate, with over 10,000 instagram followers, one of her more public creative outlets is her body image healing and confidence self portraits and mini essays.
“With all of my work with body confidence and body image healing, it wasn’t really something I intended to spend so much time creating in the realm of, it’s more of something that I’ve gone through and been through.”
With Emma’s professional life in the newsroom, she finds that while creativity is central to her personality, her role at work often leaves her primarily with duties that don’t fully utilize her creative skills. In an effort to find an outlet for her creative energy, she decided to write a novel.
“The more I wrote for my job the more I felt like I think I could do a novel, ‘I think I could do it’”
With her self motivation and inspiration from the consistency of her work in journalism, Emma decided to prioritize her novel and allowed herself to unapologetically say no to things that would take her away from that.
“You have to forcefully carve out time for your creative pursuits… there’s always going to be something else but we have to unapologetically reserve that time for ourselves.”
